Did You Know That Over 15 Million Tonnes of Textile Waste End Up In Landfills Each Year?
Tagged as: .
While giving away branded merchandise or “swag” is a popular way for companies and organizations to promote their brands, these items can end up on landfills when those companies and organizations rebrand or the merchandise becomes obsolete. The promotional products industry has made a shift in recent years to focus more on quality products and sustainable, responsible sourcing. Still, much can be done to increase recycling and donation of unneeded branded merchandise and reduce the amount of swag that ends up in a landfill.
At SwagCycle, we help tackle this very issue. Whether it’s a few t-shirts from last year’s sponsored fun run, or boxes of goods with the outdated company logo, the question is the same: how do you dispose of unusable swag in a responsible way? Leveraging our proprietary network of charitable and recycling partners, we manage the lifecycle of all types of branded merchandise and keep unwanted branded items out of landfills by helping to repurpose and recycle them in a responsible, ethical, and affordable way.
Recent Highlights From Our Work
We’re excited to announce that we recently completed our largest ever donation! Working with domestic apparel manufacturer Royal Apparel and our partners at Delivering Good, we helped facilitate the donation of 100,000 face masks (at a value of $299,000) to our nonprofit partners at the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless and Perfecting Faith Church.
Our work in 2021 is off to a great start! As of March 31, we have worked with partners to keep 171,871 items out of landfills and facilitate $495,966.61 of donations to charitable causes.
Some highlights from our work include:
- Helping a leading travel company donate 1,000 obsolete 25-ounce BPA-free aluminum sport bottles to United Way Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley and Boys & Girls Club of Boston
- Assisting a publicly traded pharmaceutical company with donating individually wrapped toothbrushes from an obsolete patient kit to Project Stretch
- Helping a major educational organization donate several thousand water bottles and t-shirts to Delivering Good
Making a difference in our community and across the country has been incredibly rewarding. You can learn more about highlights from our work in our 2020 Impact Report.
